Singing is a pleasure and a great way to meet people and Flitwick Singers have been doing this and making music for over 30 years! We are a four part mixed choir, with members coming from a wide local area. We began as a small group affiliated to the Sing for Pleasure movement. We still sing for pleasure to support local charity events and to raise money directly for local good causes. We have a wide repertoire, rehearse every Monday in term time and perform about 8 concerts each year.
If you would like to know more about coming along and singing with us, ask any of the choir members for more information or use the details on the Contact us page.
You can also use those details to ask how we could support your good cause.
Our current Musical Director is Rowena Gibbons, who studied oboe (principally) and piano at Chetham's School of Music, Manchester gaining grade 8 distinctions in both instruments.
She is currently the piano accompanist to Towcester Choral Society, Aylesbury Festival Choir and Chipping Norton Choral Society and yearly organises and plays for Ulverston Festival Chorus as part of the Ulverston International Music Festival in Cumbria. She is also piano accompanist for the majority of instrumental exams at Milton Keynes Music Co-op.
Flitwick Singers is her first Musical Directorship and she is enjoying it immensely as the singers are so friendly and welcoming which makes the rehearsals very light-hearted - but rigorous nonetheless!
Our accompanist is Linda Pitts, who began playing for us in May 1986. She enjoys accompanying when there are voices joining in - but she jokingly says she is not so happy with a piano only section full of black notes! Linda also plays the organ at her local Methodist church and in her teaching career she encouraged and played for many children's choirs, helping them sing with enjoyment and enthusiasm.
